Spiritual Direction
God is always present and at work in each and every circumstance of your life, but it can be challenging to recognize it. Spiritual direction is an ancient practice that helps enhance your connection with and awareness of God in all things and in all areas of your life and to respond to His invitation to draw you into deeper relationship with him. God is the true Director, and my role is simply to accompany you and help you hear and respond to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The content of the direction session is simply your life, whatever aspect, story, or experience you feel moved to bring to your session. As we listen together, I may invite you to participate in spiritual practices and/or prayers to help deepen your experience of God’s presence and at times suggest scripture and other spiritual readings to further reflect on what God may be revealing to you.
Spiritual direction is not psychotherapy or counseling. Psychotherapy and counseling are focused on addressing specific issues and giving you tools to resolve specific problems, whereas spiritual direction helps you attune to your relationship with God and recognize His invitations in whatever circumstances you are facing. Some common questions that are often discussed in spiritual direction are:
Who am I, and what is my purpose?
Where do I belong?
Where can I be of service in His Kingdom?
Who is God to me?
How do I hear God speak?
How can I grow in my intimacy with God?
Where/why does God seem distant, absent, unavailable?
How is God working in:
My relationships
My marriage
My career
My stage of life
My circumstances
My struggles
